Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation Appreciation Luncheon: Honoring Hsi Lai Temple's Service and Dedication

On the morning of March 23, the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation hosted an appreciation luncheon for volunteers at Steinmetz Park in Hacienda Heights, attended by approximately one hundred people. Ven. Hui Cheng from the Social Education & Outreach Department of Fo Guang Shan Hsi Lai Temple, along with Avelyn Busch, Vice President of the Elder Advisor Committee of the Buddha’s Light International Association (BLIA) Los Angeles Chapter, and elder advisor Gena Ooi, were recognized for their dedicated community service and invited to participate in the event.

Norma E. Garcia-Gonzalez, Director of the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation, expressed her gratitude to all volunteers for their dedication and service to the community. She emphasized that volunteers are the main resource for community activities and that parks provide a venue for social gatherings, activities aimed at improving mental health, and benefits for future generations.

For a long time, members of Hsi Lai Temple and the BLIA have collaborated with the Los Angeles County Department of Parks and Recreation in community service. They regularly share information about temple and association activities and courses and design various educational and entertaining activities suitable for children, with cultural game booths being particularly popular. This aligns with the teachings of Venerable Master Hsing Yun, the founding master of Fo Guang Shan, who encouraged engaging with the public, serving the community, integrating into local society, and bringing more light and hope to humanity.

Ven. Chueh Chung, Director of the Secretariat of the BLIA World Headquarters, Fang Wu, a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Chapter, and Elder Advisor Lynn Mai Quach also attended the celebration.
